"Early pregnancy scare"

About: Maternity care (wards 68, 72 &73) / Early Pregnancy Assessment Service

(as the patient),

At 7 weeks pregnant I had a little bit of a bleed and I'm sure you can appreciate we were very worried.  I had already booked on for my booking appointment at 9 weeks and my scan at 12 weeks. I had received an information booklet in the post.

However no where in the booklet does it tell you what to do before having seen your midwife at 9/10 weeks.

Do I call my GP? Can I self refer? What's the phone number?

For me all was well. After a trip to early pregnancy unit at GRI the lovely staff checked me over and we were ok.

However the 12h previous to this was a mad panic of googling and phone number searching. I really feel communication is the key and a page in the booklet with information of what to do would have really helped and calmed me down. I'm sure I am not alone with this.

Just a thought from an anxious mum to be and NHS employee.

Dear mirrormirror,

Many thanks for taking the time to feedback to us regarding your experience when visiting the early pregnancy service within Princess Royal Maternity. I can appreciate that this was a very worrying and anxious time for you and am delighted that you have been reassured and that your pregnancy is now progressing well.

I was concerned to read that you did not find accessing our service easy and I would like to reassure you that we have recently reviewed our literature relating to the early pregnancy service and are also currently in the process of updating the information within the website. I think that the number for early pregnancy within the pregnancy booklet would be a very valuable and useful addition and I will take this suggestion forward.

I would like to thank you for your kind comments regarding the care you received when you attended the EPAS service and I will ensure that this is fed back to the staff.

I hope that you continue to stay well and your midwife will be delighted to support you during your pregnancy until we welcome your baby next year,

Kind regards,

Vicki Mazzoni
