"Class Divide ever prevalent "

About: Priory Hospital Marchwood

If you're from 1st world poverty and unfortunate enough to be sent here do expect to fall victim to the class divide. If you're a NHS patient you will be treated differently and will be reminded so throughout your whole visit. This was very evident during my 5 day admission July of this year. They would often refer to "the girls" upstairs as more deserving of treatment because they paid for it despite myself suffering from potentially the same condition as said "girls" upstairs. In the end this caused me to self discharge early from the hospital as the staff created a competitive atmosphere causing my mental health to deteriorate. A key point I would like to highlight here is that eating disorders are/can be extremely competitive for some already for a number of reasons however treatment for such time sensitive conditions should not be further reinforcing these behaviours. This hospital is a danger to life for those who come from lower social classes. Due to my stay at the priory and being reminded that "there are more sick people out there" and that "I need to wait my turn" I have turned down eating disorder treatment since that admission after struggling for 18 years undiagnosed, unacknowledged, unnoticed and consequently untreated. I no longer feel deserving of treatment which was repeated to me in those 5 days by a number of staff members on the Sandpiper ward. The rich do not have any more of a right to life than the poor, please remember this and do not allow the staffs behaviours and actions to cause you to get drastically more unwell, as I have done. If you're from a lower class you may also feel ignored here that's probably because you're being ignored. This can be seen throughout my containment; my partner often received phone calls of me is complete crisis without any support from staff. When my CPA occurred this became very apparent as they had no idea of what trauma I had inccured over the years. Alongside this I sustained many head injuries during my stay which were not addressed. Please make sure to value your life. I fear for the safety and wellbeing of others from similar social and economic backgrounds as mine being deliberately failed due to their lack of income.
