"Ticking boxes??"

About: Broomfield Hospital / Ophthalmology Southend Hospital / Ophthalmology

(as the patient),

Please be aware that I was only given an appointment late yesterday. I was unsuccessful in trying to use Public Transport to attend as I warned would be the case.!

Please also note that I was referred to A&E Broomfield by my Optician and attended in mid October.

I was seen, much quicker than I had assumed and gave over my details at A&E. Then told to go for a coffee in the Café and await a phone call on my mobile phone.

This occurred after having consumed my purchased coffee. The Broomfield Eye Clinic, based next door to the Café, advised I would be receiving a “posted” advice of appointment to attend. Meaning, I was released to go home.!

Please also note, assuming I would be receiving eye drops for examination, I used public transport quite easily as this is my “local facility”.

The following day I had missed calls on my mobile and no message (I am not allowed to have my mobile with me at all times during my working day). I responded to the missed no. 01245 361220 and found a message advising I would be contacted to advise an Emergency appointment, I could not leave a message.

I also found this number on my home phone later, with no message.

Late Saturday afternoon, I received another call from this number, which I was able to answer. 11am Monday appoint advised and attended.

Fortunately, I was able to be driven to Broomfield Hospital and was attended to on time, with eye drops before examination.

Full examination by Doctor with decision to Scan Right eye problem. More drops and await scan.

Scan occurred where I noticed the image was being saved under someone else’s name but, sorted.!

Senior Doctor (second opinion), fresh scan and advised blood was evident at rear of eye. This will dissipate over a few months, was explained.

All of this I have experienced on a lesser scale before and was comfortable with explanations and also feelings. It was also mentioned that details would be shared with Southend Hospital.

Then the day after, I get phone calls from Southend Hospital asking for me to attend immediately. Trying to arrange Transport and work out Public Transport was impossible. I was then offered an afternoon appointment for the following day.

Whilst trying to arrange Transport and work out Public Transport, I am then phoned by Doctor advising I am to attend Orsett Eye Clinic and see a colleague. At Broomfield, I was advised that the expert for rear eye surgery, if required, was at Southend.

I have tried to sort transport but, with such short notice for all of this, I am not able.!

Apologies for going on but, I am relating what occurred over the last few days with expense and time away from work. Which in the current climate, has been extremely uncomfortable.

Emergency case has been mentioned “on and off” and I am feeling like I am ticking the boxes for different departments with their latest procedure’s in mind.
