My elderly mother was knocked down, she was in intensive care for 3 weeks then moved to ward 61, while in intensive care the nurses were at hand day and night to answer any concerns we had and give updates, they also had video call just so we could see her.
This is Covid times and at the moment very hard for everyone, but I feel especially for the poor souls in hospital. The nurses are run off there feet in this ward its so busy. My mum was in a room by herself with no stimulation, only getting to see someone when she needed a procedure. I feel if one person were allocated a time per day to visit with full ppe they could relive the burden from the nurses by checking she can answer her phone when family call, make sure it has a charge in it, have chats or at least something to focus on.
I know we can't get in but this is so hard for all parties. Trying to get through on the phone to speak to someone about any updates is ridiculously difficult and causes even more distress. The long and short of it all is at least once a day the patients should have a time slot so that the families can face time or at least speak to their loved ones in hospital. Our family has to face time as my mum's hearing aids don't work (would love audiology to visit and make her new hearing aids) which is even more distressing for patients when they are confused enough and don't know what people are saying (she's scared) I hate the Covid19 year.
