After having an operation recently I had to be transferred to high dependency due to well let’s just say complications after operation (actually not being given the medication I should have received)
Anyway I had to spend 8 days in ward 4B in what was known a a super green room .
I was discharged in September and have had to attend Crosshouse regularly since then to have blood tests taken.
In October I received a letter from a senior member of staff to say that they had been investigating a small number of cases of covid infection associated with the ward and the risk was very low to me however wanted me to be extra vigilant for symptoms particularly for 14 days after discharge and to self isolate if necessary.
Now my problem is that the letter is dated 10 days after my discharge and I did not receive this until 26 days after discharge!!! Having tried to email the author of the letter and email being returned undeliverable I contacted number on letter and spoke with an administrator who said they would ask the author to contact me on their return that week.
A week later with still no phone call I contacted the ward again spoke with a person who informed me that the person who wrote that letter was off and they can only imagine that the delay was due to ever changing guidelines?
I questioned that and this member of staff then goes on to say that they are gearing up for a second wave as though you know we are so busy .
Well I’m absolutely disgusted by this whole mess. I should have been contacted ASAP to inform me that there was a low risk of infection not 26 days after discharge.
And when I have asked for an explanation I should have at the very least been given the courtesy of that.
I am all for protecting the NHS but it goes both ways. I am so upset by the way this has been handled and to be honest I may even now take this a lot further especially after listening to the first minister answering questions today on how they can prevent spread in hospitals well I’m the classic case that was put at risk whilst in hospital discharge and daily/weekly reported to Crosshouse hospital to have blood test taken .
