"Fracture clinic consultant"

About: Sunderland Royal Hospital / Trauma and orthopaedics

(as the patient),

After having a hard fall tripping over a coffee table I injured my thumb, I called 111 they sent me to a primary centre to have it x-rayed. They then showed me the Damage of break, a piece of my bone chipped - they gave me a splint for the time being to keep my thumb in a comfortable position

I then had to go to the hospital on another day. The consultant came in room looked at my thumb which was very tender indeed. They asked if I could move it, I could a little with discomfort.

This consultant then said ’i don’t understand why they have given you that splint as it has nothing to do with your wrist’ Yet it had my thumb supported Regardless! More than what this person did to help my pain..

What do you do for a living? they asked. I responded I’m a care worker. They then went on to say I’m putting this in the bin ok.... and I’m leaving your thumb free so you can use it, and walked off out of the treatment room! use it I can hardly move it! The clicking sound when I try and move it tells me something ain’t right..

Very disappointed the pain it is in I walked off disgusted - absolute waste of my time... I have read up on this and notifies in my search how it could be broke as I have every trauma in my thumb although on the x-ray it was definitely fractured.

I will be taking this further as this guy seemed so much in a rush to get me out the door! I didn’t get his name as he did not introduce himself ..

no the wonder I have no faith in them at all. Fracture clinic at Sunderland royal hospital, 🏥 absolutely disgusted in you. If I did my job how this consultation was done, I would be marched out of the door with my P45!
