"Infant in NNU in CAH"

About: Antrim Area Hospital / Ward C2 Maternity care Craigavon Area Hospital / Neonatal Unit

(as a parent/guardian),

I gave birth to my baby girl in Antrim area hospital in September by emergency c section. she was born 4 1/2 weeks premature needing help with breathing & feeding.

She was taken to Craigavon neonatal unit as there was no room for her at Antrim. I felt worried & upset as I stayed in Antrim and she was in Craigavon as it is over an hour car journey for us.

On our first day visiting our baby girl, we were greeted with friendly staff who instantly made us feel at ease. They made sure I was comfortable and explained to us clearly what our baby was being monitored for. The girls helped me learn to feed & change nappies & I feel so confident now.

We left the hospital each night feeling content that our daughter was in brilliant care, as upset as we felt also we knew she was in the best place. We really are so thankful to the whole team who work so hard & especially when we weren't there. They all deserve so much credit!

Congratulations on the birth of your new daughter.

We acknowledge the anxiety you and your family must have felt when your baby was moved to another neonatal unit, for ongoing care. To feel welcomed and supported by staff in this new unit, to receive regular updates on your daughters progress and to be involved in her care has obviously made your experience of Craigavon Neonatal Unit a positive one.

Thank you for this feedback which I will share with our team.

Best wishes for the future

Regards

Una

Hi Kathryn114

My name is Helen and I am the Lead Midwife at Antrim Hospital.

Thank you for the lovely feedback and I am delighted that you had such a positive experience when you got to visit your new baby girl.

I am sorry we were unable to provide a Neonatal bed for your little one in Antrim, it must have been very upsetting and difficult for you. It’s difficult for staff also when parents are separated from their little one so I will share your feedback with the staff here in Antrim and I know it will mean a lot to them.

If there is anything we could do to improve the care provided to parents when separated from their baby please let me know. My contact number is 07833231815.

Thank you

Helen
