"Utterly brilliant; thank you Ward 14"

About: King's Mill Hospital

The staff during my visit as an outpatient for a hysteroscopy and during surgery (hysterectomy), demonstrated excellent practice; I was treated with respect and kindness. I have a fairly rare and severe allergy to a substance that can be found in analgesics / anaesthetics / food etc. and the entire team worked hard to ensure I was safe and everything went smoothly throughout the whole process but not only that, I was thoroughly reassured prior to coming into the ward and this was an incredible comfort to me.

The nurses and ward sister were meticulous and patient and the consultant filled me with confidence by communicating clearly and comprehensively pre- and post- surgery. On thanking the consultant I was told that they were just doing their job but to do it so competently and with such care and kindness meant that the respect and admiration I already had for staff in the medical profession has increased significantly.

The pharmacist even came up to explain which analgesics they would use that were safe for me during recovery. Additionally, a record had been made of these, in case of future visits to the hospital.

It is fair to say that I have been wholly impressed by the quality of care. A ‘thank you’ does not feel like enough; everybody was utterly brilliant and I thoroughly appreciated it.
