I was admitted as early labour in the birthing suite on Tuesday and the staff were very sympathetic and caring of my discomfort - I was progressing very slowly and felt disheartened on arrival. I had a midwife assigned to me and a student midwife who was also on hand to provide support and care. My husband was able to stay with me and the pain relief options were explained to me in detail. I managed to get some rest before things progressed very quickly. I found all staff to be professional and through what can be a very intimidating and daunting experience, I felt as comfortable as I could with everything explained to me clearly and compassionately. Once my baby arrived the midwife took care to check me over and did all the necessary while I enjoyed skin to skin with my baby. I lost a little blood and she helped me physically walk to my room and prepare for a shower. My husband was able to stay with me until I had showered and was comfortable. My baby was a little restless overnight and another student midwife offered to care for her while I rested which I found incredible of her. All in all, i feel the student midwives are an asset to the team and the maternity team as a whole are exactly what you need in the situation, cool calm, compassionate and most importantly caring of each individual and their circumstance.
Thank you to all involved in my care, I know I definitely made the right choice in where I came to have my baby.
"Wonderful staff and experience"
