"They expected me to get public transport or walk home"

About: Lincoln County Hospital / Nephrology

(as the patient),

Was sent to Lincoln hospital for a kidney biopsy, stayed in for 2 nights which was fine. Nurse on ward told me she had booked transport to take me home. I was then sent to the discharge lounge waiting for hospital transport, after 6 long hours of waiting I was told I wasn't eligible for it as I was mobile! . They expected me to get public transport or walk home. Luckily one of the ambulance crew at 7pm (discharge lounge shut at 8pm) felt sorry for me and took me home, which I was very grateful for!

We are so sorry that this has happened to you and that there was communication issues on your eligibility for patient transport. We don't set the criteria for who is eligible as that is via our transport provider, TASL.

Clearly we need to learn from this and to ensure that our staff are fully aware on the rules around eligibility. We would like you to contact us via our PALS team (pals@ulh.nhs.uk or 01522 707071) so we can gain some more detail.
