"Professional Health visitor"

About: Torbay and South Devon NHS Foundation Trust Torbay Hospital / Maternity

(as a parent/guardian),

Hello,

I gave birth to my second child with planned C-section due to problematic pregnancy. After the birth, the baby was very sleepy and didn't eat too much so he lost lots of weight. So we ended back in the hospital. These five days were one of the most horrible experience for me and my partner in our lives.

Everyone was saying It's normal for a new-born. The baby and I were discharged on the Thursday and the midwife on duty did not measure the baby's weight. On the next day I went on an appointment with my midwife and they found that the baby had lost lots of weight-over 10% from his birth weight. So we were admitted back to Torbay Hospital, Louisa Carrey Ward.

The health professionals there were amazing and brought my son back to life. I mentioned that it was a bad time for me and my partner because the baby was poorly, it was with cannula on for the whole period (because of the antibiotics), had lumbar puncture and so many assessments for a new-born.

After our hospital discharge, we had an appointment with health visitor but due to technical issues it was cancelled, so we went to Lescaze Offices, Dartington. On our arrival Rachel-the health visitor walked all the way round the building to meet us. Everything was prepared from her in advance - scale, seat for breastfeeding, paper, leaflets. The room was sparkling clean, and cosy. She answered all of the questions which I asked her. Rachel gave me extra useful information for Devon Health email subscription and so on. After few days, she called me back to check if everything is alright with the baby and me.
Rachel's practice is very professional, trusty and patient centred. I feel now more confident like a parent, because I know that I will receive professional advice and treatment from Lescaze Offices, Dartinhton, especially Rachel, if something happens to my baby.
Thank you, Rachel!
Wish you and your loved ones all the best!
Best wishes,
