"Seizures, Duty of Care?"

About: University Hospital Wishaw / Emergency Department

(as a relative),

My daughter woke to her little girl having a seizure (first time, aged 8) in July 2020. Absolutely Terrified she headed into Wishaw A&E dept to be sent home after Her Observations and a BM check was the only tests carried out!

Fast forward to September  the same again.... a seizure at 2230, so off to Wishaw again to be left in A &E until 3 am roughly, again only Observations and BM check.

Next day another Seizure, back to WGH... same again only Obs and BM check.

My daughter was told if shes coming out of the seizure  just phone the clinic to get her appointment moved up quicker and if Shes NOT , i.e. a medical emergency to get to A &E. She wasn't told to Phone 999...just to get to A&E.... how does one Get to a&e with a child having a seizure?. 😡

Sunday morning another seizure

Again today so off to QEUH to see if something can be done there...

Long story but the Consultant called my daughter by the time she got home 30mins apologising  for the treament  her and my grandaughter recieved.

Absolutely Disgusting  that a child thats having SEIZURES isnt referred onto the paediatrician  on the first visit!

Staff at any A&E department have a duty of care to their patients. This was not carried out as it should have been.

Totally Disgusted.
