"Brilliant care before and during birth."

About: St Michael's Hospital (Bristol)

I was admitted at 39 weeks due to abnormal blood results. I had to stay 2 days before they could induce me. I was sent for an emergency scan and I was feeling very anxious about this whole experience. All of the MWs were so kind and understanding. They all introduced themselves and made me feel very welcome throughout my stay before birth. This was my second birth here and I was feeling very emotional. I was missing my husband and son, having countless tests/scans and results and it was all overwhelming. The staff couldn’t do enough for me on the ward. I was induced in the early hours and was anxious that my husband wouldn’t be allowed in til I was in active labour but they told me to ring my husband so he was there for the whole thing. The birth went well and all MWs were brilliant. I gave birth mid morning but there were no beds available on the ward. I stayed in the delivery room for 10 hours after giving birth. This wasn’t there fault at all, it just shows the effects of the funding cuts. I then got told I could go home but then it was over ruled and told to stay due to my blood results. I got taken Up to the ward at this point. I was now

Very tired and emotional. Being told I could go then couldn’t really upset me because I was desperate to see my little boy at home. I had been up 24 hours and I was exhausted. The MWs kindly took my little one so I could get a few hours sleep. The next morning, things went down hill. No one came to see me, I had no water jug and when pressing the call buzzer it would take 15 mins for someone to come. I was waiting to see a dr re my blood results but No one was available. I was left feeling v confused what was going on. Eventually I got told my results had improved and I could go home. My husband had a long drive to get me plus traffic was horrendous. I got asked if he could hurry up as they needed my bed. None of this is the MWs fault. It’s lack of staff due to lack of funding. They were completely rushed off their feet and so full. Even the delivery suite was being used as a ward at points.
