"Good practitioners but frustrating admin systems"

About: Chingford Medical Practice

I have been a patient for twenty years (albeit originally from a separate practice that transferred into the current centre). The doctors have always been fine when I've got to see them. Unlike the early days, I now rarely get to see the same doctor twice but that's fine. It has got increasingly difficult to get any appointments though over recent years (this started long before understandable problems with Covid). Making an appointment is like trying to get tickets for Glastonbury. Everyone has to dial in repeatedly at the stroke of 8:30 for a same day appointment and hope to be one of the lucky ones; a process that can take a good half an hour to get without a result and so needs repeating on subsequent days. There is no booking ahead. That's a maddening system for anyone that has to go to work and not a particularly useful one for anyone else. There were options for booking online using Patient Access or similar but the practice doesn't seem to be up to be up to speed on the technical aspects of that. It took a year for them to sort out why that functionality was enabled on my account and it seems to be an option subsequently withdrawn. Reception staff are sometimes friendly and helpful but anything but at other times. Its also very difficult to get through. It took me over 75 minutes to get an answer today, despite being told I was first in the queue for the last hour.
