"A long overdue thank-you"

About: Aberdeen Maternity Hospital / Obstetrics (Maternity care)

(as a service user),

A year ago today I had my second baby and it's been on my mind for a long time now that I owe a long overdue thank-you to all the staff who looked after both my baby boy and me.

From the initial telephone call in the middle of the night, everyone I encountered was professional and friendly. Special thanks must go to the fabulous staff in the Midwife Led Unit who greeted with the same excitement they would for a long lost friend and treated me like a guest of honour throughout - between them and the birthing pool, I could almost convince myself I was in a spa (in between contractions)!

The midwives I had were Kylie and Dawn. I believe Kylie usually specialises in high risk labours and Dawn usually works in Elgin but you would not have known the difference had they not mentioned it. They encouraged me to trust my body and instincts whilst making me feel very safe and supported.

I would also like to thank the medical student, Emma who put up with my inane chatter (I talk a lot when nervous!) and didn't seem fazed at all despite this being her first time witnessing birth. I also cannot forget Lorna, the lovely healthcare assistant who even recognised me on the postnatal ward the following day. These ladies are like swans - so serene and calm whilst frantically busy and the care is just superb.

Finally, a shout out to Nic, my fantastic community midwife who was just the definition of being "with woman"; she really went above and beyond to be my advocate throughout my pregnancy whilst always putting the health of baby and me first. Thanks again to all for giving my baby the best start in life; I will be forever grateful for the service we received.

Dear Happymumofone,

Thank you for taking the time to get in touch, the last year I'm sure would have past in a flash and it is great to think that your positive experience spurred you on to write this.

Kylie and Dawn will be delighted to read this and I'll be sure this is passed on to them as well as Emma, Lorna and Nic.

May I wish you and your family all the best for the future.

Thanks

Liz
