About: NHS Lanarkshire

(as a service user),

NHS Lanarkshire psychological well-being helpline advertised on the website in April 2020 however the number does not work. Is it out of service or incorrect? Was the number tested as part of proofing check of the copy that was posted online? Either way, not a great experience for those seeking help as the service appears uncontactable. I checked with local surgery (Lincluden, Uddingston), they have the same number which doesn’t work and had no suggestions re: raising this error, not aware of how to provide the NHS Lanarkshire with feedback.

Dear Sept20

Thank you for taking the time to get in touch. This helpline was put in place to provide additional support during the initial phase of the NHS Lanarkshire response to the Covid-19 pandemic. The helpline was staffed by clinicians from Psychological Services, and provided advice on managing anxiety around Covid-19. Following a relaxation of restrictions in June/July, the number of calls to the line decreased significantly, to the point where only a handful of calls a week were being received. As a result, a decision was taken to suspend the helpline. This was publicised, and on 2nd July I wrote to every GP in Lanarkshire to advise them of this. At the same time, the clinicians who had been redeployed to the helpline were deployed back to their regular clinical work.

There are many resources focused on helping people cope with Covid-19, and these can be found on the NHS Inform website (www.nhsinform.scot).

For help with non-Covid-19 psychological difficulties, your GP is well placed to advise and, where clinically appropriate, is able to direct you to online, digital therapies, as well as make a referral to Mental Health Services.

I hope that this is helpful.

Hello. The website was checked and, unfortunately, although we had asked for it to be made clear that the line was no longer available, this was not actioned. I understand that this has been rectified.
