"Banning of all birth partners"

About: King's College Hospital (Denmark Hill) / Maternity

(as a service user),

I feel that kings have exhibited the most callous and uncaring, not to mention information lacking approach to expectant fathers and birth partners by enforcing the harshest measures on visitation including banning of all partners to pre natal scans and appointments and the stories emerging about their treatment during and after labour are shocking.

After the government has loosened restrictions 3-4 time’s since the spring Kings have not changed their approach at all, causing stress to myself and my partner who is having to experience all of this alone and with near zero communication from the midwives team and the wider hospital staff who have no idea why and when it will change.

Thank you for your comments about the protocols for expectant parents' involvement in the care of their partners. I am not sure if you have seen the most recent information on our website which is here: https://www.kch.nhs.uk/news/public/news/view/32564 As you can imagine, things are changing all the time and apologies for the concern that this is causing. If you would like to speak to our Director of Midwifery, I would be happy to facilitate this for you. You can contact me direct on jessica.bush@nhs.net

Thank you for the response,

For myself and my partner some of the language in the guidance is too vague or ominous particularly: ‘Please be aware that this position could change in response to local or national Covid-19 prevalence or new Government guidance.’

So in effect we are swapping one source of anxiety for another in having the threat of the awful restriction reimposed at a moments notice. My question is simply why can KCH not commit to the same level of understanding and assurances of scans and labour that other hospitals offer which is partners allowed at all scans and no restrictions or interference with the labour process for partners?
