"Emergency ankle operation"

About: Forth Valley Royal Hospital / Accident & emergency Forth Valley Royal Hospital / Orthopaedics

(as the patient),

I had an accident where I fractured the fibula and snapped tendons in my ankle.  I attended A&E on the Sunday and received a phone call from the Orthopaedic clinic at Larbert hospital on the Tuesday asking me to come in for a scan.  After the scan one of the Drs spoke to me and explained I needed surgery on the foot.  Following morning I met with the surgeon and the anaesthetist and the procedure was explained to me.  I was very nervous but was quickly put at ease by Drs, nursing staff, porters and everyone else I came in contact with at Larbert Hospital.

After surgery I was very well looked after and sent home, with a cast on, with pain killers and had a demonstration, from the one of the physiotherapists, on how to use the crutches.  Mr Preiss performed the surgery and he saw me each week, explaining progress made so far and what to expect in the future weeks.  It took 8 weeks for my bone/tendons to repair and I have now been referred to the Physio department.
I didn't get a chance to thank everyone who looked after my care.  I have had recent experience (elderly parents) with both Royal Edinburgh Infirmary and Western Hospital in Edinburgh and what my family experienced in those hospitals was so completely different to what I experienced in Larbert hospital.  Everyone was so caring, hard working and nothing was too much bother.  I truly appreciate was Mr Preiss and his team have done for me; truly amazing and such a happy team of people.
I am not in the habit of posting on line feedback; this is a first for me but felt it was important to feedback the difference the team have made to me.
Thank you
