"The level of care is exceptional."

About: Campbeltown Hospital / Maternity care

(as a service user),

I cannot commend the Campbeltown midwifery team more - I have gone through two pregnancies and births with this team and the level of care is exceptional.

Throughout both of my pregnancies, my midwife was Isabel and she’s someone I will never forget. Isabel really took the time to get to know me and my partner and any time I had concerns or differing needs, she would genuinely listen and take on board what was said and adapt and create an environment of calm for me. Isabel is gentle and approachable, compassionate and flexible, reliable and above all, the true definition of a midwife - she is with you every step of the way. You can tell Isabel loves what she does and she cares deeply for the women and babies she has under her care.

The latter part of my latest pregnancy was during the COVID-19 pandemic which added a new layer of stress and worry. I was a grand multipara woman which meant my pregnancy was considered high risk, but I was fully supported in my choice to have a home birth.

When the time came, I gave birth to my precious baby girl at home, with Isabel and Becky in attendance. Despite the stresses and worries they must have been going through themselves regarding the pandemic, and the necessity of restrictive and uncomfortable PPE being worn, their care did not falter. I had a bit of a worrying time immediately post-partum when I had a bigger bleed than was ideal, but I felt completely safe in the hands of Isabel and Becky and I trusted they would do right by me.

Being able to feel fully supported and safe during birth makes an undeniable difference. Giving birth is a sacred and special event and I was able to feel the full scale of it because I felt so safe and supported. Isabel’s care towards us post-partum was no different, she was there with us every step to reassure and support.

Ultimately, Isabel went above and beyond, from helping us get a few items of shopping whilst we self-isolated and had no one else to help, to being there and available when we had worries way beyond the remit or normal length of maternity care.

It’s a vulnerable time in a woman’s life and for me even more so due to certain health conditions, but to feel as supported as I did really made all the difference to me and my family and I want to thank the Campbeltown midwifery team for being who they are - each and every one of them - but special gratitude of course goes to Isabel.

Campbeltown midwives, you are a special team and you hold a special place in my heart. Your tireless commitment and dedication does not go unnoticed.

Hi there GratefulMum26,Thankyou for sharing this heartfelt experience of Midwifery Service in Kintyre with us. Midwives are very proud of the work they do in Argyll and Bute and the relationships and trust they develop with families in our rural communities.

It has been very important to us over this uncertain time to keep things as normal as possible for our families and provide care, compassion .........and help with the shopping at times!

I wish you and your family all the best for the future

Kind Regards, Catriona
