After suffering from an umbilical hernia for over a year (including one failed surgery in December last year) my situation was getting worse and I was looking about 6 months pregnant. After contacting the surgical team and speaking to Karen 10/10 she helped me get my GP refer me to the SACU unit.
The GP initially refused to refer me or see me saying that it was the hospitals responsibility when in fact it was the GP’s. When I was eventually referred I saw two lovey doctors in the SACU department who had me sent for an urgent CT scan where it was decided I would receive my operation to repair my hernia right away.
Initially I was admitted to Ward 4 where I was looked after by one particular nurse from whom I received first class service. And this was a consistent approach from all the lovely and friendly staff in ward 4 and the operating theatre. I thank them for that.
I was then moved to ward 6. The service I received in ward 4 was sorely missed in ward 6. When I first arrived around 10pm I was left with no help to unpack my things and no nurses came to see me or introduce them self’s to me other than to take my OBS. During night in ward 4 all the curtains around the beds were shut except a small doorway to allow you to go to the toilet but keep your privacy. Unfortunately in ward 6 there was no such night procedure. Ward 6 could defiantly take a leaf out of ward 4’s book.
