I am aged 73. Earlier this year I had spinal surgery and was discharged after three days. As I live alone and friends were on holiday I was going home by taxi. I asked the nurse who was discharging me if someone could accompany from the ward to the hospital entrance. She said that wasn’t possible. As I made my way to the ground floor atrium I had to ask twice for directions. By the time I reached the information desk to ask where to find the taxi stance I felt extremely light-headed. Under normal circumstances I am active, clear-headed and competent but post-op I felt weak and very vulnerable. As I am soon to have another spinal operation I anxious to know how I might avail myself of assistance from the ward to the hospital exit on the day I’m discharged. Thanks.
