"Turned away without even being seen"

About: Hay Lodge Hospital

(as a service user),

This morning a delivery driver injured his hand badly when making a delivery to us. We bandaged him up as best we could and took him to the Hay Lodge minor injuries unit in Peebles, We were mindful of the COVID-19 restrictions and first called the 2 numbers provided at the entrance - no-one answered either number. The driver was in a deal of pain, in shock and bleeding badly. I pressed the entry buzzer - twice before getting an answer, and was told to wait. After a few minutes the reply came back - "we don't have any staff and if its a minor injury you'll have to go to BGH" Not only did no-one come to see the patient, they didn't ask a single question about what was wrong, how urgent it might have been, not a single thing, They didn't ask if we were able to get to BGH. They didn't ask if I was able to make the judgement about whether or not it was a minor or a serious injury. They couldn't have cared less. Shame on you NHS Borders.
