About: New Victoria Hospital / Day surgery

(as a service user),

I have a query - how long should it take to get pathology results on a biopsy? I had a lump removed from my nose 6 weeks ago but still haven't heard anything.

Dear Pingas Mum

Thanks for your post.

The length of time for results can vary depending on the test. Can I suggest that you contact the Department who referred you for the biopsy for an update?

Kind Regards

Nicole

Hi Nicole,

I did but they said it would be 4 weeks from the date of surgery. They told me this when I called 2 weeks after the surgery. What's the ENT protcol?

Regardless of whether you are or are not able to answer this question, 6 weeks+ seems a long timeframe.

Dear Pingas Mum

Pathology will send the results to the department who requested the test, in this case ENT. The Department will then contact the patient with the results. I appreciate that 6 weeks is a long time to wait for results but unfortunately, we are still experiencing delays as a result of COVID-19. Do you need a contact number for the ENT Department?

Kind Regards

Nicole

Update posted by Pinga's Mum (a service user)

It was slap bang in the middle of Covid when the consultant wrote to say it would take 4 weeks. I left it another fortnight on purpose (to account for Covid.........it'll actually be 7 weeks tomorrow when the surgery was done.

Update - while writing this, the ent department contacted me and it's all sorted now. Many thanks.
