"Emergency C Section"

About: Ninewells Hospital / Maternity care

(as a service user),

I gave birth within the labour suite at Ninewells via emergency Caesarian.

I wanted to write a personal thank you to all the staff who were on duty that night. Although it was a scary and fast paced night, where decisions were taken out of my hands, the staff were absolutely fantastic.

Even in the midst of a rollercoaster I always felt supported and kept up to date with what was happening and why.

I was looked after by midwife Beverley. (based in the Labour Suite) She was a very calming influence and took time to explain everything the doctors and staff were doing and what this meant for me and baby.

Harriet, the anaesthetist, came and introduced herself and explained the number of options available to her if the decision to have an emergency section was made. She then stayed right with me throughout the whole c section and offered a hand to squeeze if needed. Again she explained what was happening and why and kept me fully up to date with every stage of the process. She was eternally calm and supportive to both myself and husband.

Dr Pandy performed the Caesarian along with her team. The whole team took time

to introduce themselves to my very nervous husband and offer him words of support and reassurance.

Dr Pandy made the final call regarding delivering via emergency Caesarian and I knew that she had explored all other avenues and that this was what was safest option for my baby.

I can not thank the staff enough. Even at four am they were all completely in the zone and made me feel as if I was in the safest of hands. I then stayed a further day and a half and can attest to how hard all the midwives, nurses and health care assistants were working with them running around and constantly on the go.

My own community midwife (Jeanette from the Angus birthing teams) happened to be in ninewells the night I delivered and made a point of coming and checking on me, despite being committed to another patient. Seeing a familiar face meant a lot.

All in all I am extremely grateful for our NHS staff and wanted to show my gratitude for the hard work and long hours that they all put in.

You ensured the safe arrival of my baby girl and gave me advice and support afterwards.
