"Out Patient Appointment"

About: Kings Cross Hospital / Kings Cross Health and Community Care Centre

(as a service user),

I have been booked in for an Ear Syringing at Strathcathro.  As I don't live nearby, I tried to find a contact phone number and/or the name of the department who would carry out this procedure, in order that I may find more guidance as to where to go, once I'd arrived at the hospital.

However, despite extensive searching, no phone number nor listed department were on your website that I could contact.  The only number to be found was for patients attending the Surgical Ward and I contacted them and was given the number I needed from the nurse who answered the phone.

As the appointment was booked over the phone, I had no paperwork to check for a phone number, so would suggest you have a look at your website and make it more comprehensive to the patient.

I am computer literate, but anyone who struggles with computers would find the whole website baffling

Thank you for sharing your experience. I am sorry you did not have all the information you needed to attend your appointment and found it difficult to find. I have contacted a few people directly involved in providing service information etc. They should get back to you on Care Opinion soon.

We have now reviewed our information on the website and placed clearer instructions on where patients attend for appointments and how they can contact the service for any questions they may have prior to attending: //www.nhstayside.scot.nhs.uk/GoingToHospital/OurPremisesA-Z/StracathroHospital/index.htm

Update posted by Carnoustie Patient (a service user)

On behalf of other patients who may have had problems accessing information about the hospital (Strathcathro) prior to attending an appointment, many thanks for updating your website. The problem was exacerbated by not having any paperwork to refer to and the telephone handler merely there to offer booking times only.

I hope that when the restrictions currently in place, due to Covid19 are lifted, patients will once more be able to receive relevant information, both written and by personal interaction, making online contact an addition rather than the only option.

Thanks

Thank you - I will also alert our appointments team lead to ensure that what should have happened -provision of written information following a phone call is happening for all patients now. we really do appreciate your feedback and while we may not have managed to get it completely right for you this time it helps us get it right for others in the future.

Kindest regards

Debbie, Senior Nurse, Research and Development
