(as the patient),

I have been falling for about  2 year now and for no reason.  I had 2 falls one I can remember the other a little. My wife took me to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital Glasgow. Due to covid 19 my wife was not aloud in the A@E. She was unable to talk to the Doctor regarding my falls as  I was a bit dazed the doctors said I had blackout out. When I asked my wife what really happened she said I fell down the staircase and knocked myself out  when I hit the storage heater at bottom of the staircase as I've have did that before. I just wish the doctors were able to talk to my wife and get the truth and tell them I knock myself out and that i did not black out as i remember the falls when i do not hit my head. Just wish my wife was able to tell the doctors this

Many thanks for getting in touch.

Unfortunately during COVID-19 guidelines, we were unable to allow family members into A&E. We realise that this can be upsetting for patients and I’m sorry that your wife was unable to speak to the doctor about your fall.

When you attend A&E, they sent an update to your GP to let them know of your attendance, can I suggest that you speak to your GP about your concerns about your fall? We also have a Community Falls Prevention Service – they can give advice, support and guidance regarding falls and how to avoid further falls. This service is available for people aged 65 or over; have had a least one fall in the past year; lives at home and lives in the NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde area. You can contact them on 0141 427 8311.

Hi Nicole I totally understand why my wife was not allowed into the A&E. I did as the Doctor to call my wife on her mobile to ask her what happened when I fell and also to let her no I was getting kept in. He did call but by that time my wife had phoned in and was told I was not getting home so when he called she was unable to talk as she was driving. I just wanted my wife to let them know I knocked myself out as I fell and I did not blackout. I totally understand why family are not allowed in due to Covid-19. I am in my 40's, I live in Motherwell but been attending the QEUH since it was the Southern Genaral days that why I went to that A&E and not my local hospital. Many thanks for contacting me.
