"Mountainhall Treatment Centre - caring compassionate staff"

About: Mountainhall Treatment Centre

(as a staff member),

Stacey from domestic services approached me at around 7.30pm to ask if I could help her. She had noticed someone very elderly and frail walking slow and unsteady around the darkening Mountainhall gardens in the rain.  Concerned at the fairly light clothing and cold, she had decided to approach during her break and ask if everything was okay could she help?  The elderly person had replied that they didn't 'feel so great' and did did not really know why they were there.  Help would be appreciated.

This person was not needing emergency medical support but certainly needed community health and social care support - which we immediately offered and was accepted.  In the midst of a pandemic and lock down it transpired some understandable confusion had arisen across family and friends leading to a lack of routine checks-in, groceries and usual company.  Everyone is now alerted.

I wanted to thank Stacey and the domestic team who took time out of their busy schedule cleaning MTC during a pandemic to lift their eyes notice and wonder then approach and ask. It would  have been easy to think 'I am too busy' or 'its not my business'.  Selfless compassion and recognition of a potentially vulnerable person has without doubt prevented serious risks to this person.

Today another member of the cleaning team approach me asking if this person was safe and well.  Yes support was in place.  This team are always smiling and helpful as a norm.  However what struck me was such a beautiful example of compassion and care regardless of how busy they are in a pandemic. I know this person cannot remember what you all did that night and how much concern you showed - but I can and I wanted to say thank you to Stacey

It is lovely to hear such positive feedback about members of the Support Services Team. The kindness that was demonstrated is what makes us all proud to be part of NHS Team.

Rachel Edgar, Support Services Manager

I am so touched by this story and have printed out for the rest of the team at Mountainhall. Thank you.

I am very happy that this gentleman is safe and well and he now has extra support from another amazing team.

'Helping one person may not change the world, but it could change the world for that one person' especially during this pandemic we all need to look after each other and be kind.
