I was diagnosed with Prostate Cancer in November 2019. The GP put me in for an emergency 2 week referral to the NDDH in Barnstaple - it was 3 weeks though before I saw the Consultant who immediately ordered scans to see if the cancer had spread to bones and soft tissues. Gleason score was 8 and PSA was 44. December was taken up with biopsies and the scans. Had a catheter fitted.
At the end of December 2019 we had the results meeting where I was told the results of my scans and what treatment was proposed. Great news, the cancer had not spread and my treatment was Hormone Therapy and 37 sessions of Radiotherapy at RD&E in Exeter (later reduced to 20 sessions). Corvid delayed the radiation starting by a month but I finished in early June 2020. My PSA is now <0.01.
Throughout this the two departments (Urology at NDDH and Radiation at RD&E) have been brilliant. They have liaised with each other so well and I have always been made to feel that I was the only patient they had. Brilliant care and aftercare - so grateful to so many people. Thank you all.
