I was unwell on the night of Sunday into Monday this week. Feeling very weak and nauseated, weakness to right side, speech impediment, facial droop, etc. Was admitted to ward 3E. I have to say that from then on my Care was exemplary. Clerked as soon as I entered the ward, all nursing staff so pleasant and friendly. The following day, promptly seen by consultant, lots of investigations carried out, seen by physio and OT. All very pleasant and couldn’t be more helpful or caring. Very surprising as this hasn’t previously been my experience of Crosshouse Hospital. I will say, however, that the nursing side is very short staffed, with what appeared to be only 1 RGN per 6 beds plus. Yes, there were fantastic support staff, but all were run ragged and hardly had time to even get a drink in a 12 and a half hour shift. They all went above and beyond, nothing a bother! All staff on 3E, from medical, nursing, auxiliary, porters, domestics etc are an absolute credit to the NHS. I’d double their salaries if I could. I’ve been a nurse since 1981, so I do have a good insight and understanding of the issues here, believe me, they deserve all the praise they get!
