Our 93 year old Mother who suffers from dementia, fell in a care home on Saturday evening at approx. 17:30. The staff were informed the ambulance could take up to 2 hours to reach her. She had a suspected broken hip, was in extreme pain, possibly suffering from internal bleeding. Our Mother was on the floor, becoming hypothermic, in shock/confusion. 999 was called again repdy by botht the family and the Home. They were told the call was being treated as an emergency call. They eventually they arrived 7.5 hours later at approx 00:30. The reason for this was given as being "they were busy".
Is this the way we now treat a 93 year demented lady in this country these days?
No sufficient words can be found to express our disgust at the catastrophic failure of this so called 999 emergency service and the trauma this has caused our Mother. Our Mum has been operated on for a broken hip yesterday and only time will tell if she survives this ordeal.
"Unbelievable waiting time for a so called…"
