I was admitted to St Luke’s in early July, as I have facial cancer. I had not been coping at home and came into the hospice to get some practical support. I came to have a break from my environment and help me manage my pain. My aim was to get home safely with a package of care and equipment .
I was frightened of coming into the hospice and did not know what to expect, but the experience of being in the hospice has been a positive experience.
During my stay in the hospice it was my birthday and the staff made it a very special day for me. When I woke up in the morning the outside of my room was decorated in colourful bunting and staff had arranged a birthday cake and ice-cream for me. No one has never done anything so nice for me. All the staff made me feel so special.
I was able to go home with a care package and equipment, but became unwell and was readmitted to the hospice again. Sadly my disease had progressed and I was not coping at home.
I was pleased to come back to the hospice which is a very special place. I have benefited from all the care and support I have received from everyone in the hospice. I have been able to sort out some of my practical affairs whilst I have been here.
I am so thankful to the staff for looking after me - the staff have treated me with great care, dignity and compassion. I have felt very safe here.
