"Hemithyroidectomy"

About: Aberdeen Royal Infirmary / Dept of Scheduled Admissions

(as the patient),

I recently underwent a right hemithyroidectomy at ARI in 2020 and just wanted to say thank you to all involved: - from the friendly receptionist who called to advise of my surgery date, to the two pre-admissions nurses who I met earlier in the month, the staff members who met me at the ARI entrance on the morning on my surgery, the lovely lady who took me to DoSA and all staff thereafter.

Although I had a long and anxious 8hr wait before finally being taken to theatre, staff regularly checked to see if I was okay, discussed the procedure and ensured I was as comfortable as possible. Mr Shakeel, the theatre and recovery room team, were all very friendly, reassuring, professional and had a great sense of humour which I found put me at ease from beginning to end.

After surgery I was taken to ward 210 for an overnight stay and all the nurses were so lovely and caring, as were the lovely chatty tea ladies. I could not have had better care during my short stay and I think we are very lucky to have such a wonderful hospital with such wonderful staff members.
