"Dislocating my shoulder"

About: Ninewells Hospital / Accident & Emergency Ninewells Hospital / Xrays and scans Scottish Ambulance Service / Emergency Ambulance

(as a service user),

During an adventure with my daughter to an inflatable assault course on water in Dundee, I had a nasty accident and really hurt my arm.

Once the staff helped me down from the inflatable and got me safely back to shore I felt very scared and extremely sore

The paramedic (Steve) was very kind and assessed me, helped me and gave me some relief

His wife was kind enough to take me and my 7 year old daughter to accident and emergency and helped me get checked in.  She kept me talking on the journey and was so kind(especially as I was still wearing a wet suit!)

In A&E the nurse helped get me out of the wetsuit and listened to my story before I saw the consultant. He assessed me quickly and managed my pain before arranging X-ray

Kelly the radiographer was kind and professional and helped me understand my injury.

The consultant and the resus team were amazing keeping me calm and providing sedation to help reposition the dislocated shoulder.

I was observed by a nurse and an FY1 who again were helpful and kind, even contacting my local health board to help me navigate our services for follow up

Thank you so much for taking the time to feedback to us about your experience of various services after sustaining an injury during your water adventure in Dundee. I am delighted to read that your experience of all the services is positive, but particularly that you found the team in the Emergency Department to be helpful, kind and professional. It must have been a very unpleasant and painful experience for you and repositioning a disclocated shoulder can be equally unpleasant and painful. I am pleased to read that the Consultant and the Resus team did a good job of reassuring you and supporting you during this procedure.

I hope you are continuing to recover from your recent injury. Thank you again for taking the time to feedback to us. The staff will really appreciate it.

Many thanks

Julie Greenlees

Dear GymMum,

Thanks so much for taking the time to share your feedback on CareOpinion. Dislocating your shoulder so near to, if not in the water must have been terrifying! I would have been panicking...

I am so glad that you had such good treatment however and I hope that you are on the road to a full recovery. Steve appears to have done a great job, and his wife? Were they paired up on the vehicle?

I would love to be able to pass on these comments to Steve (and his wife), would you be able to contact my team at Scotamb.feedback@nhs.net and provide the date, time and approximate location of the incident so that we can find the job and find Steve. (If I could kindly ask also that you include your CareOpinion username also so the others can trace the story please?)

Thanks Again

Alan
