"Giving birth"

About: Peterhead Community Hospital / Maternity

(as a service user),

If anyone is wondering about where to give birth and had thought about either inverurie or peterhead midwife units but are not sure well i hope this post helps you!

I should start and say that when I went into labour on Sunday night my original plan was to go to inverurie but their pools were out of maintenance and when I asked Aberdeen if their pool was free it was taken. So my only option was labour ward (which I really didn't want as I had done my hypnobirthing and wanted a water birth) then the midwife a Aberdeen said how about peterhead?! Well it was not my original plan but I thought we can do this and get there on time! And my husband was amazing at supporting this idea! Bearing in mind I was 5cm dilated! Off we went! Absolutely fantastic! It all went to plan. Which brings me to say...

A little thank you....I'd just like to take the time to say just how fantastic the midwife unit in Peterhead is! All of the midwives there took fantastic care of me from my arrival on Sunday night through to Wednesday. All I can say is girls do not be put off going to a midwife unit because you are thinking about what could go wrong. Be strong and trust your bodies and stay positive. Our bodies were made to do this. I got one to one care from them all and it was so personal and the fact you do not get discharged right away and can ask to have that little bit extra support for a few days...well it really benefitted me as I was struggling to get to grips with breastfeeding. I got the exact birth i wanted and its all down to staying calm and relaxed as these girls who take care of you truly do know what they are doing! I even cried when leaving because they all went above and beyond for me!

Thank you to,

Wendy, Josey, Natalie, Anne, Jean, Hannah, Denise, Georgia, Lynn, Lorraine and anyone else I have missed out (truly sorry if I forgot anyones names...exhausted doesnt cut it!)

 xxx

Dear mamaamz

Firstly let me congratulate you on the birth of your baby. It is always lovely to receive feedback on our Community Maternity Units (CMU's) and delighted you enjoyed your experience at Peterhead CMU. I will ensure this is shared with those staff named and they will be delighted to read this. Im very pleased you felt supported, calm and relaxed during your birth and in the early days after, and that the team suported you with feeding.

Thanks so much for sharing.

With my very best wishes

Update posted by mamaamz (a service user)

Thank you Rachael, the staff really should be praised on how well and amazing they all do at supporting the women they care for during their stay. My husband and I were really amazed at the support provided by them. If I was to have another baby I will definitely go back there! Thank you for passing on our gratitude 😆

Thank you mamaamz for responding and your very kind comments about the team. You will be very welcome to use our facilities in Peterhead or Inverurie if you do decide to have another baby. It is lovely that by providing feedback of your experience, this might also reassure other women in their Place of birth decision. The CMU’s are beautiful, modern facilities and have dedicated midwifery and maternity staff to support women and their families.

thank you again
