"No discharge planning"

About: Glasgow Royal Infirmary / Trauma & orthopaedics (wards 26, 27, 61 & 62 )

(as a carer),

My 74 year old mother was discharged 3 days post ORIF surgery to tibia.   She lives alone in a 3 strorey house with only a kitchen and small bedroom on ground floor- no toilet. She was unable to carry out personal care  or prepare food/drinks independently. I (daughter) have to take unpaid leave to look after her. I was never consulted about her discharge.   I am unable to be a full time carer due to own young family and work.   We had to buy a second hand commode and mobility aids.   We have no appointment time for follow up clinic and no advice on leg brace- mum has a pressure sore from leg brace developed. Extremely let down, and I also believe that the service was in breach of the Carers Act.

Dear GG80,

I was very disappointed to hear of your recent experience of care and in particular the issues relating to the apparent lack of planning associated with your mother's discharge home. Please accept my apologies for any distressed this has caused you, your mother or other members of your family.

If you are able to call me on 07900678367 I will be able to investigate this further and provide you with a response.

Thank you for taking the time to contact us and to highlight your concerns.

Yours sincerely,

John Stuart

Chief Nurse.
