I had a fall from my bike on a coastal path and fell onto rocks. I had bruising and cuts to both legs, a badly bruised and sore hip and grazed and bruised my right shoulder. These injurys I recovered from after 2 -3 weeks.
The significant injury was to my right hand, (I am right handed), where I broke the 5th meta carpal and dislocated the ring and middle fingers. I went to the minor injuries unit at St Andrews Community Hospital, Fife. The nursing staff were excellent dealing with all injuries, they re-set the middle dislocated finger and asked a Dr from the surgery to assist with the ring finger. They processed X Rays * 3. and arranged for me to go to Victoria hospital, (A& E dept), Kirkcaldy, Fife.
The staff were caring, professional, I felt very reassured, respected and treated. I then went to the A& E dept of the Victoria Hospital, Kirkcaldy, Fife, a 50 min drive with my husband. I was fortunate to be seen by 1 of Fife's Hand Specialist Dr's - Dr McEachan. , who was working in the A& E dept. Again I received 1st class treatment after another set of injections, she re set the ring finger that was dislocated, examined all injuries and recommended that my broken metacarpal receive surgery as the small finger was splaying. She arranged for surgery 3 days later (after the weekend).
The admission to the day Trauma Unit of the Victoria Hospital was safe and streamlined, the surgery went well to have a plate fitted to the met carpal. I was given a post op follow up appt 1 week later at Queen Margaret hospital, Dunfermline with Dr McEachan and the Occupational Therapy - Hand Specialist -Sheila.
I was given exercises, which were thorough and since then have had virtual appts with Occ Therapy - Hand Specialist, Sheila regularly and a follow up review appt at the hospital. I have been reassured throughout, by these staff and could contact them outwith appts if necessary. Under the current climate I am very appreciative of all staff and treatment, I could not have asked for more.
