"Where is the support? Why are crisis line staff so poor ?"

About: Camden and Islington NHS Foundation Trust / Crisis resolution

(as a service user),

I don't know if it is worth writing here but a GP recently wrote a blog about his attempt to feedback and this site was mentioned. When I read reviews it is exactly what I and everyone says about crisis support. I was quite shocked that managers or complaints teams wrote back as if they were surprised when they must know as so many complain. I can see they now don't even read reviews but I am still going to write it so others know it is not just them.

My GP told me to ring the crisis line. This was before coronavirus. I rang 4 times and my condition was made so much worse by the response from the crisis line I wanted to kill myself. I am still not sure these are qualified professionals as they seemed more like contact staff you get at NHS 111.

When I was told to go to A&E because the crisis line was too busy to talk kindly to me it was to apparently be seen by the same team but just with a wait of 5 hrs before being told to go back to my GP. I have honestly never come across people so dangerous to ones health. I call them the crisis line but they rebrand themselves all the time.

These are some of my experience. I was suicidal each time. Several years ago I was under their care but not for long enough to have detailed records or anything up to date. Apart from these 4 calls. I have been admitted to hospital in the past and to a crisis house before. Each time after trying to kill myself. But these records are not with this Trust but they knew this.

One time the GP rang ahead .One time I called it was from the GP surgery with a nurse on loudspeaker because I had warned her what they are like and she hadn't believed me.

I told the crisis line that I had hoarded opiate painkillers to kill myself. The worker started to ask me if I considered myself intelligent. They asked me if I had been to university. They asked me if I had thought about how selfish I was being. I asked if I should go to A&E and they said -we will tell you to go and see your GP as clearly you are intelligent and should take responsibility for yourself . They didn't know I was ringing from the GP.

Depression isn't to do with intelligence. Plenty of educated people kill themselves. Plenty of intelligent people are diagnosed with schizophrenia. I feel that these staff are not fit for their role in the NHS and this crisis line should be shut down. It would be safer to have nothing in place than this. I won't call again. I will take my chances but I am youngish and the future looks really grim when I read how bad crisis team has been for so long.
