Having been a post operative care on ward 4 at Aintree hospital I wanted to share my story. The care I received was below what was expected for such a specialist ward. I was post op, pain relief was not forthcoming despite asking numerous times. On one occasion I wanted 2 hours for something to help. The nurses did a comfort round to which I was asked a pain score. My pain score was documented as 8/10 and simply ignored, this clearly shows It was simply a paper expertise and to tick the box.
I asked at one point for a blanket because I was cold, fair enough I was handed the blanket, but remember I was 4 hours post op abdominal surgery so was not in any fit stare to cover myself, there was no cold water just warm food was dry and poor quality no wonder I never eaten for 5 days.
I know this does sound like a general moan, but these little things are basic nursing care and in view of only being one of ten patients on the ward there is my mind is no excuse.
However the care and compassion I received from Mr Arthur (surgeon) was outstanding a pure gentleman who cares.
"Poor care"
