"Lack of care and professionalism"

About: Crosshouse Hospital / Stroke Care

(as a relative),

My partner was transferred here from another ward. Reason given was “concerned about social well-being”. Therefore, moved into a “stroke and elderly care ward”. He had NOT had a stroke neither did he require elderly care. He has diabetes type 1. Since moving to this ward he has not managed to eat food resulting in “hypos”. He developed large swelling in his abdomen where the nurses continually injected into same area. Our family had to demand that he be taken for a shower after 7 days of lack of care. He was left without clothing ie. no underwear and exposed to anyone walking by. Several members of staff did not wear masks. AND still don’t. Observed after 7 visits! When my partner needed to use the toilet he had to borrow a crutch from a patient in the same ward as none were available for his sole use. No doctors ever available for us to consult with and phone constantly engaged when trying to organise visits. With the exception of one nurse, we all found the staff to be very uncaring and extremely unhelpful. These people give the profession a very bad name.

Dear frustrated by lack of care and professionalism,

I am so sorry to hear about your experience and the poor standard of care. I can imagine how distressing this must be for you and your partner.

It would be good to discuss the concerns in more detail. I am unsure what ward your partner is in therefore if you contact me I will ensure these concerns are looked in to.

Can you please contact me either on phone 01563 827933 or by email christine.somerville@aapct.scot.nhs.uk

Best Wishes,

Christine
