"Emergency c section and arrival of our baby boy."

About: Aberdeen Maternity Hospital / Obstetrics (Maternity care) Inverurie Hospital / Midwifery

(as a service user),

I was transferred to Aberdeen Maternity Hospital  from Inverurie as an emergency during the peak of the the pandemic. The thought of being transferred as an emergency and during COVID was terrifying but I was instantly put at ease by the fantastic staff at Aberdeen.

I arrived at the Labour ward and my care was taken over by Christina, a Spanish midwife. She was reassuring and I felt in good hands. Unfortunately, my baby continued to be distressed and I was taken for an emergency c section. The Senior Charge Midwife, Eilish and Christina made me feel very safe and comfortable prior to going to Theatre. Christina stayed with me throughout the c section, recovery and on my subsequent transfer to the Ashgrove ward. She was fantastic and is a credit to her profession.

My care in Theatre was great. The nursing staff, David, Sharlene, Hannah and Nicole were all lovely and I felt well cared for. Dr Jabber and Dr Stickle also made myself and my husband feel at ease and kept us informed throughout the c section.

Olivia and Amanda were the main midwives who looked after me in the ward. They were lovely and took the time to check on me and my baby boy frequently. This was greatly appreciated as my husband couldn't be with me or could we have any visitors which was hard.

We cant thank the staff at Aberdeen Maternity Hospital enough, you all do a wonderful job!

Dear CM143,

Thank you for taking the time to get in touch and please accept my congratulations on the birth of your son.

Transferring into Aberdeen can be quite scary at the best of times but add in a pandemic which I'm sure heightened this experience for you.

What is great to hear is how reassured you felt by all the staff from labour ward to theatre and then to the postnatal ward. I know our staff work really hard to give families the best experience that they can.

I will make sure that this is shared with them.

Thanks again and best wishes to you and your family.
