"My brother who has MS"

About: Crown House Surgery Retford Hospital / Trauma and orthopaedics

(as a relative),

Fell backwards trapped his legs under him back in March 2020 ambulance came after 4 hours of phoning as carers couldn’t lift him in bed , he has been bed bound ever since. His doctor at Retford Primary care  has been contacted several times and has made no effort to get his xrays , stating that their opinion is it’s probably MS reason why my brother is bed bound. He is ex army and had done over 800 parachute jumps and has had in the past 9 operations in his knees and is more than capable of recognising that it is the damage to his knees that causes him to be in bed , I know we have Covid 19 but if it’s ok for his carers to come in then surely it’s ok for his doctor to come and examine and or refer him for X-rays , this is no way to treat an army veteran .

As well as this a physiotherapist came  , told him about exercises he could do in bed also to roll up a towel under his knees, then didn’t turn up for next appt when phoned said they had forgot . Next appt he phoned when they were over an hour late and cancelled as he had taken off underwear to use catheter, third appt  told the physiotherapist unless they could give him a guaranteed time there was no point in coming. This physiotherapist  reported back to my brother's doctor at Retford that he has cancelled the last three appointments which was not the true story , I his sister was there on all these occasions so can verify that the physiotherapist did not turn up.

I would appreciate a call to try and get him the help he needs

I am so sorry to read the problems you have had trying to get help for your brother. Reading the comments it sounds as if his care is provided through his GP Surgery. If this is not the case and you would like to speak to someone at the Trust re any care he is receiving please contact our Patient Experience Team on Freephone 0800 028 8059 or by e-mail: dbth.pals.dbh@nhs.net.

I would like the original to be emailed to Stefan’s doctor at crown hose surgery in Retford so that he is aware that I have raised this as an issue, I cannot find a direct email to him. I’m not happy as my poor brother is just being ignored and overlooked
