"Not getting help when wife is seriously ill"

About: East Glade Centre

(as a carer),

My wife has a crisis took 4 days to come and see her.

I rang on Friday only to be told we'll get back to you. It took 4 hours to ring me at 5 o’clock as they finish to be told to ring out of hours. The advice from out of hours was "tell her to have a cup of tea and calm down".

At this stage she was manic. She was cleaning through the night. Rung again only to told "wear some ear muffs so you don’t hear her."

Got some help Monday, only after ringing my GP. They come out and said she's very poorly, it’s the worse they seen her. I explain this to them Friday. So I had to cope from Friday till Monday with no help.

This has been happening for the last 4 years. I'm not in full health myself. They think I’m making it up, but they see her now and again I live with her 24/7. What a shambles! Rant over.

hello.

Thank you for sharing your story.

I'm really sorry for the experience you've had. We do try as best we can to respond to requests for help as promptly as possible and with around a 1,000 people on our books it is sometimes hard to prioritise everything. without knowing the details of anything else that was being dealt with its hard to know why we could be more proactive.

The comment made to you regarding ear muffs is wholly inappropriate so I will ask one of the management team to look into this.

I do recognise, being the main carer, the pressure you under and the level of support you provide. It will be helpful to request a carers assessment if you've not had one. I will also ask the management team to provide you with advice on this.

kind regards
