"Urgent breast screening appointment during COVID-19"

About: NHS Ayrshire & Arran / South West Scotland Breast Screening Centre

(as the patient),

Hi, just thought I’d share it took 4 weeks to the day after my gp app for an appointment letter to come through, and it was for 4 days later. I was very worried during the 4 week wait and found no answers myself regarding wait times etc, so thought I’d share my experience with it.

Hope this helps someone

Dear Missssmith,

Thank you for sharing your experience with us, and I am very pleased to hear you have been seen at clinic and I do hope everything went well for you.

It is a worrying time for patients as they await a first appointment, not least with the current challenges of the pandemic. We are doing all we can to make sure our services can restart and recover, and that patients are given the safest possible care as timely as possible.

We are also working on a way to communicate current waiting times to GPs so that they can advise patients how long they can expect to wait for an appointment, which may help with some of the anxiety.

Best wishes,

Tracy Dalrymple
