"Support to keep Mum at home at the end of her life"

About: St Lukes Hospice

(as a staff member posting for a patient/service user),

This was my first experience with a hospice so I cannot compare it to anything in the past, however from the service I got I am incredibly happy with the advice and help I received.  In fact I'm happy that the nurses convinced me to keep Mum at home when I was having a hard time caring for her.  I got the opportunity to care for my Mum until the end with the support from you guys.  My daughters are pledging a donation for their grandma.

Special thanks to Komal.  You were there for me from the start, day or night.  We never met but you made it so comfortable to call you at any time.  You always had a way to calm me down and advice me the best way ahead, especially during the first stages of registration with the NHS and at St Luke's [hospice].

Special thanks to the two nurses who calmed me down when I wanted to move Mum to the hospice.  This was the best decision [to keep Mum at home], one which I shall never regret and always be grateful.

Thank you to Gladys for always cheering me up talking in Swahili.  Again you brought a smile on my face when I needed it.

Job well done to the whole team, keep it up!

Thank you so much for thakingthe time to write about your experience of the care given by St Luke's Hospice.

We appreciate that it can often be very tiring and, at times, stressful, when caring full time for a loved one and I am glad that we could support you in this. Our community services are there to help people; offering advice and support to the carers and to help the individual with personal care and control of symptoms.

St Luke's has a 24 hour telephone advice line which is available for individuals to access. If anyone reading this would like more information about our services details are available on our website www.stlukes-hospice.org

I will pass on your thanks to Komal, Gladys and the team - I am sure they will be deleighted to hear how they supported you, and that their care made such a difference to you, your mother and your family.

Ursula
