"Disappointing service"

About: Somerset NHS Foundation Trust

After an initial phone interview with Talking Services I was informed that the service would be able to help with the problems I was experiencing. I was surprised to be offered this help in a couple of weeks. During this appointment I was informed that I was being discharged from the service because my score was too low to warrant their services and time. The problems I presented with are still there plus feel extremely let down by the service .

I'm glad to hear you received a prompt assessment from the service. Our waiting times have significantly improved recently and we can offer people treatment within a matter of a few weeks. But I'm sorry that you found the outcome of the assessment so disappointing. Sometimes therapy is not the best option for a patient, and make in fact be inadvisable: if the presentation of anxiety and/or depression is quite low (backed up by evidence such as the scores you mention) we may encourage a patient to think about other ways to improve their life, such as social interventions run by our colleagues in the community sector, or self-help options. It is never the case that we would consider a patient does not warrant our support, but that the support offered may be about signposting to other services.
