My daughter was admitted to AMU at the RAH Paisley with pyelonephritis where she received excellent care from all members of staff, she was transferred to the ward 20 under the urologists & had a nephrostomy tube fitted. She was discharged on the 24th with a letter to say the tube was to be in place until her nephrectomy, which had previously been cancelled last September, and that the tube would need to be changed every 3months, and follow up with the consultant.
As I am a nurse, my daughter felt happier with me carrying out her stoma bag change & care which we have been doing. We have had some questions & have now contacted the consultant's secretary & our GP & have asked for some contact from the Consultant to answer these. I have asked about a date for her tube change & was told to speak to radiology, they told me round about the end of July, we still have no letter.
The stoma nurse did give advice with regards to bags but she doesn't deal with nephrostomy patients routinely. While I appreciate that there is a pandemic ongoing, I feel that my daughter should have received some form of follow up to answer any ongoing questions.
