"The whole experience was outstanding"

About: Ninewells Hospital / Intensive Care Unit Ninewells Hospital / Respiratory Medicine Scottish Ambulance Service / Patient Transport Service

(as the patient),

The overall admission to Ninewells was so positive. I was taken by ambulance to Perth Royal Infirmary but then transferred to Ninewells due to the severity of my asthma. The care I received was second to none and in stark contrast to previous admissions to hospital I have had in NHS Lothian.

I was admitted to critical care and was asked how my asthma is normally treated and what worked or me. I have an anticipatory care plan which was followed but the team also always spoke to me and included me in decisions.

The staff were very attentive and made sure I knew what was going on. I was also given a lot of help with my physical disability too. Being a young person with a very new mobility limitation I hate asking for help but they were there to offer the help so I didnt need to ask.

The follow up post admission has been outstanding with phone calls from he respiratory nurses to check how I was and how my recovery was going. I also have very severe allergies which restrict my lifestyle as it is a compound that naturally occurs in fruit, veg, additives, preservatives.

The staff were very good at making sure that everyone was aware of my allergies so no products were used near me. They also called the diet kitchen to make sure there was food provided for me the I could eat which is never done in the hospital I normally I attend. My parents normally need to bring food in for me.

The whole experience was superb (as much as a hospital experience can be) and made it a lot easier to relax and just concentrate on getting better.

Dear justTUX

Thank you very much for taking the time to share your feedback on CareOpinion.

I am sorry to read that you required the use of our services and that of the wider NHS Scotland, I do hope that you are feeling better.

I am no asthmatic and cannot begin to imagine what an exacerbation or attack feels like but I imagine it is very scary and having people there who can make you feel safe or at ease is so important in the management of the condition. I am really happy to read that you had a good experience and were looked after on all levels, including making sure there was no risk to your allergies.

Thanks again for sharing this with us all and I wish you all the very best!

Kind Regards

Alan

Dear "JustTUX"

Thank you for sharing your experience with us via Care Opinion. The team here at NHS Tayside would like to pass on their best wishes for your recovery and I hope that you are feeling better. It must be a very scary time coming into hospital and I am pleased to hear that you felt safe and listened to during your stay in Ninewells. We always aim to make sure that our patients are partners in their care and it is encouraging to hear that you were kept informed and involved in making plans to manage your asthma that worked for you.

It is always so encouraging for our teams to receive positive feedback and I will ensure that staff in our respiratory and critical care areas have sight of your kind words.

With kind regards.

Susan Bean
