The overall admission to Ninewells was so positive. I was taken by ambulance to Perth Royal Infirmary but then transferred to Ninewells due to the severity of my asthma. The care I received was second to none and in stark contrast to previous admissions to hospital I have had in NHS Lothian.
I was admitted to critical care and was asked how my asthma is normally treated and what worked or me. I have an anticipatory care plan which was followed but the team also always spoke to me and included me in decisions.
The staff were very attentive and made sure I knew what was going on. I was also given a lot of help with my physical disability too. Being a young person with a very new mobility limitation I hate asking for help but they were there to offer the help so I didnt need to ask.
The follow up post admission has been outstanding with phone calls from he respiratory nurses to check how I was and how my recovery was going. I also have very severe allergies which restrict my lifestyle as it is a compound that naturally occurs in fruit, veg, additives, preservatives.
The staff were very good at making sure that everyone was aware of my allergies so no products were used near me. They also called the diet kitchen to make sure there was food provided for me the I could eat which is never done in the hospital I normally I attend. My parents normally need to bring food in for me.
The whole experience was superb (as much as a hospital experience can be) and made it a lot easier to relax and just concentrate on getting better.
"The whole experience was outstanding"
