"Daniel Ward"

About: Mount Vernon Hospital Site / Neurology

(as a service user),

My Granddad was admitted to Daniels Ward last August and the service and treatment he and my family received was so awful, I would never recommend anyone to go to Daniels ward.

My Granddad was incredibly upset during his whole stay and we felt the staff were rude and dismissive of my family and I. They had basically given up hope on him as soon as he arrived at the ward and they made that very clear. They tried to discharge him on more than one occasion before he was ready and they went against family wishes to say things to him that were incredibly upsetting.
I asked them several times to only speak positively to him to help his mindset and for anything serious to speak to the family so we could deliver things to him in a way that was less upsetting but they didn't do this.
I found the whole service totally disgusting and has totally hindered the recovery I think my Granddad could have made.
They moaned at us that he often needed the loo, considering he was totally paralyzed down the left side of his body I found that a horrid complaint to hear. I made it very clear to them that my Granddad was a very proud man and the fact he was now so reliant on them was hard for him and us. I asked for them to acknowledge this and not make him out to be a burden, when this is indeed their job.
There were many other incidents during his stay that i could say and many individual staff members who I could name that I will never forgive for the way they made him feel.  I will be following up with this separately and ensure they are held accountable for the damage they have done.
My biggest regret is sending him to Daniel Ward, it scarred him and my family for life and I will never allow any of my family to be admitted to Mount Vernon for any future services.
