"They really do not seem to care"

About: Medway Maritime Hospital / Accident and emergency Medway Maritime Hospital / General Medicine Medway Maritime Hospital / X-ray and Scans

(as a service user),

I had a fall and was advised not to go to the hospital by my GP because of Covid . Fast forward 4 weeks and leg now swollen and I can’t walk . I ended up in A and E despite Covid 19.

They gave me an X-ray and told me there was no MRI, as this was reserved for life-threatening injuries only. I was told that I would have To wait 6 weeks Before getting any MRI despite being unable to walk on my leg and having young children at home . Given painkillers and sent packing . Now being told MRI could be up to 2 months wait and 22 weeks for a consultant Can’t walk and in extreme pain , they really do not seem to care.

When I came out of hospital I was told to contact GP and get painkillers. When I asked for an appointment there was none for 4 weeks. Explained to reception staff that I needed another prescription of the painkillers, as advised at the hospital. I was then told that it would be 4 weeks to get the prescription and to take paracetamol in the meantime. I had been told at the hospital not to take paracetamol as I could overdose. I feel that the receptionists are rude to patients. Never any appointments when you ring at 8am. Considering taking further action.

We are really sorry to hear of the problems you've faced since falling and injuring yourself. Unfortunately there is a wait for routine MRI scans but your GP could request a more urgent one if you are continuing to experience pain.

Alternatively you can attend the Emergency Department again and they will likely triage you round to MedOCC (Medway on call care) which is a GP facility run by Medway Community Healthcare if you are having problems with seeing your own GP.

We hope you soon are able to resolve your pain and feel more comfortable.

Kindest regards,

The Patient Experience Team.
