"Lack of support"

About: Fife Community Services / Community Paediatrics Lynebank Hospital / Learning disability

(as a parent/guardian),

Since March 2018 my son has been passed around different services with no one taking responsibility for his wellbeing. In March 2018 my son was referred to a community Peads doctor and referred again in August. I spoke to a senior staff member in community peads department and they advised that they would write to my sons GP to offer another line of enquiry that my son should try for his sleep problem.

My son is 10 years old with multiple conditions. I was referred to CAMHS who put my son on a waiting list. Once he was at the front of the waiting list they rejected his referral and passed him on to the sleep clinic in Oct 2018. The sleep clinic put him on a waiting list and again once he was at the front of list he was rejected and referred back to CAMHS Nov 2018. Again, he was put on a waiting list and then once at the top rejected and referred to the community peads Feb 2019.

Community peads again after the waiting list rejected his referral and put him back to CAMHS Sept 19 who again has put him on a waiting list for 6 months.  CAMHS had tried to include the community peads again on Dec 2019 and rejected again. We are now in 2020 and even though I was advised that my son would get an appointment from CAMHS this time I have still not received any word.

I asked My GP to write two complaints about how no one is even taking the time to speak to my son before rejecting his referral. My son has contamination fears, anxiety and sleeping difficulties that impacts on his emotional wellbeing and learning. Where are my sons basic humans rights here? As he is not being listened too or valued. I would like a reply please.

Hi Elmoelmo - I am sorry to hear that you are unhappy with Community Paediatrics.

The Community Paediatricians are not experts in contamination issues and anxiety and so we would not be the best people to support your son. Your GP should refer your son to the Sleep Clinic for support and advice.

I am unable to make any comment about CAMHS appointments.

There are lots of really helpful resources available online - Mood café, Hands on Scotland, Sleep Scotland.

If you would like to talk about this more please phone 01383 565458 (from monday).
